Jericho Community Centre

A hive of activity in the heart of Oxford

The Jericho St. Barnabas Community Centre serves the residential district of Jericho in the heart of Oxford.

Jericho Community Centre

The Centre, which is on the corner of Canal Street and Cardigan Street, hosts many local activities, including babies and toddlers club and a Saturday Community Cafe — as well as numerous classes from ballet to Thai boxing to pre-natal. The Centre is run by the Jericho Community Association which raises income for the Centre by letting out office space and also several large rooms - ideal for meetings and family parties.

The Cafe at the Community Centre offers delicious food on Saturday mornings.

The origins of Nelson Street?

Nelson Street takes its name from a local pub, the Lord Nelson, subsequently renamed Carpenters’ Arms—which has since been converted to housing.

What St Barnabas Church cost to build?

Thomas Combe the Superin­tendent of OUP and it was he who commissioned and paid for the construc­tion of the church in 1869 at a cost of £6,492. All the interior fittings were provided for about £900. The campanile was erected in 1872 for £800.
