This AGM, no Jan

Loss of Jan Needle

May 2011

Sadly, this year’s Annual General Meeting of the Jericho Community Association will not be presided over by Jan Needle who died in November (see In memoriam). In the 1970s, Jan was secretary of the Jericho Residents Association, helping defend the area from wholesale redevelopment. Then in 1989 when the Church Institute offered its building for use as a Community Centre, Jan volunteered for the management committee. Later constituted as the Jericho Community Association (JCA), this also took over the functions of the Residents Association, representing community interests and running events such as the Street Fair. Jan became Treasurer, then Chair, and finally honorary President. Thanks for everything, Jan. This year’s AGM, will be held in St. Barnabas School Hall on Tuesday May 3, at 7.30 p.m. The main theme will be: “Living with new developments in our neighbourhood: What are the threats and opportunities for Jericho?” Paul Cullen of Richmond Road will make a presentation based on a detailed report he wrote for the JCA. You will find this on the website at http://www.jerichocentre.org.uk. The meeting will also review the year and elect the Management Committee. Committee members take financial responsibility for the JCA which is a registered charity. We welcome new committee members. Nominations, with a proposer and seconder, must be received by the formal start of the meeting. All Jericho residents are members of the JCA and entitled to vote. For this purpose, Jericho is bounded by the canal, the south side of Walton Well Road, the west side of Walton Street, and Worcester College. But everyone is welcome to attend the meeting – and enjoy the free refreshments!
