Following the Public Meeting in the Church in May, a small group from the meeting met to consider what the way forward should be. It was decided to ask Mr. Alan Norridge for more details about his estimate for repairing and renovating the building. His rough estimate was £13,000, and the group wants to have that broken down to see if it is possible to do the work in stages.
The Parochial Church Council, who at present administer the building on behalf of the Trustees (the Vicar and the Church Wardens) are also waiting to see the detailed estimate. Meanwhile, the building is still on the market for sale or lease.
I hope that at its September meeting the Parochial Church Council will advise the Trustees not to sell but to place the administration of the building in the hands of a Committee of Management drawn from all sections of the Community, who will then be responsible for raising funds and repairing the building. The Trustees are applying for a grant under the Urban Aid Scheme towards essential repairs and renovation. More news in the next issue.'
