Jean Titcomb

Posted - June 01, 2012 Jean died from cancer on the 14th of January aged 70. She was born at 21 Jericho Street and went to St. Barnabas School, and was a member of the Girl Guides. When Jean was 11 the family moved to Upper Fisher Row. When she left school she worked at Oxford University Press. In 1960, at the age of 18, she married Ray Titcomb who lived next door, and they moved to 40 Cranham Street. They had three children, Kevin, Debbie and ­David and enjoyed going on holiday to Weymouth and having picnics and swimming at Port Meadow and Binsey. In 1973, Jean started work again first at St. Barnabas School as a playground assistant, and then until 2011 as a kitchen assistant at Phil and Jim school where she enjoyed serving the children their meals and made many good friends. Ray was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and had to retire aged 61. He received devoted care from Jean until he died in 2010. Jean was well known and loved in Jericho and made a lot of money for charity with the ‘Jericho Rejects’ entertainment group. She also enjoyed spending time with their five grandchildren and one great grandchild. Jean loved Jericho and never felt the need to move away. Her house always had an open door and she welcomed everyone with open arms.
