OBITUARY

Henry Carter

Posted - December 12, 2005
Henry or 'Terry', as he was sometimes known, was very much a 'son of Jericho', having been born in Nelson Street, the street where he died, and been to St. Barnabas School, from where he won a scholarship to the High School. Aged 18, he joined the RAF, and for half his life served as a radio and communications technician in various parts of the world including Singapore, Gibraltar and Germany. During his various postings, his four children were born and he was devoted to them and his many grandchildren. When he left the RAF he continued in the same field working for the Home Office, often on secret projects. Later Henry returned to Jericho to live with his mother, Olive, in Nelson Street. He loved local history and knew a lot about the canal. For some years, in the 1990s, until he suffered an injury, he also helped deliver the Jericho Echo. Our sympathies to Henry's children and grandchildren.
