Function of the Echo

March 1983

Many thanks to John Power for acting so quickly after the surgery at the Institute in January and after the last issue of the Echo on local street lighting etc.. We have been refused proper lighting at the Canal St./ Gt. Clarendon St. junction. Shame, because the nearest lamp to the crossroads is 25 yds. away. Compare this junction with Walton Crescent/Richmond Rd. which is comparatively well lit. A topic for the next "surgery" in March.

'King Street' instead of Upper Cardigan seems a good idea.

Mr. Nutt has handed over his shop and should be on his way to Devon to open an'hotel with his wife and daughters. I shall miss his sausages, turkeys and the occasional chop and wish him well in his new-career . We should like to welcome Mr.Shujaa who has taken over Mr.Nutt's shop and wish him luck in his new enterprise.

At this point it seems a good idea to recap on the function of the ECHO. It is a local community paper (or" newsheet) financed by our local trades and proffesional people buying advertising space. Anyone,of course, can buy advertising space at 12.00 for a small space and £4.00 for a large space. The more paid adverts the larger the paper, that is we can get more information in and also the quality can be better with coloured paper, photographs,etc..

The idea .behind having a local newsheet is to advertise local events and publish information, stories and happenings which we hope are of interest to most people. We should therefore like stories, local news and so on which you think would be interesting for other people to know. Personally I'd like a social column- any offers? Information doesn't have to take the form of advertisements, you can advertise jumble sales etc. without paying.

HAPPY EASTER TO EVERYONE.LOTS OF EGGS, SUN AND RELAXATION
