History of the Jericho Echo

Tenth anniversary

April 1984

June is the tenth anniversary of the Jericho Echo, which has had a somewhat chequered history! Launched in June 1974, it was first called the Jericho Newsletter, survived for ten issues, and cost 2p. It resurfaced in 1977 with an elegant new format and a new name - Jericho News. Price: 4p. In June, 1977 the Silver Jubilee issue appeared with the title 'Jericho???' and with an apology to the Vicar for having pinched the church's newsletter title by mistake!. Crippled with embarassment, it disappeared for 2 years, reappearing in July 1979 as the Jericho Echo, delivered free to every house in Jericho and financed by advertisements. Since then it has survived and has appeared roughly four times a year. Enthusiastic readers of the Echo can look at all the past numbers in the Westgate Library.
