Worcester Place workshop

May 1981

No one can have failed to notice, at the corner of Worcester Place, the Jericho Workshop, with the gay rainbow-striped sweaters made by Maggie White in the window above. There are at present six craftsmen (and women) in the workshop, rented from Worcester College. It has been in operation for about two years, and all of the workers are making a success of their individual ventures. Dafydd

Jones is one of the two photographers. He has only been seriously taking photographs for about two years, and yet already he has won the Sunday Times Scholarship, although apart from increased respect and admiration from his regular customers, the award does not seem to have significantly affected his workload yet. Dafydd's photographic ventures began at Butlins, where he took holiday snaps, and since then he has gone on to portraits and, more recently, to photojournalism and publishing.

He finds that fewer people are able to afford to indulge in portraits these days. This is unfortunate, because after looking through some of his work, I was very impressed by the quality.
