JERICHO ECHO ARTICLE
March 1983
I was wondering what was going to happen to the plot of land at the bottom of Gt. Clarendon Street on the left. There was a discussion one night at the New Inn as to whether it would be developed as housing, a car park or a marina. Working as I do at the Youth Club I thought an Adventure Playground would be a good idea so I dropped a note into John Power at the Town Hall asking what , if any, were the plans for the land. In his reply Mr. Power thought that an Open Space, a park, would be preferable to housing or an Adventure Playground, the idea of which had caused some concern to those living nearby.
The land apparently is owned by the Thames Waterboard who are at present discussing a sale with the City. The City may be considering ' building more houses and/or flats. I think an Open Space with grass and trees and flowers and perhaps some swings and a slide for small children would be an excellent use for the land. As Mrs. Starkey pointed out entering the discussion, we have enough parking problems in Jericho without adding to the load by building more houses.
