A family affair

Jericho's annual Street Fair on June 9 drew thousands of people to Canal Street. From the Bookbinders music stage at one end, to children's fairground swings at the other, the 31st Annual Jericho Street Fair offered a great day out for all the family. More than 40 stalls offered all manner of food -- Tibetan, or Caribbean or Ethiopian, and much more -- complemented with sausage and chips (and Tracey's amazing cakes) in the Community Cafe, and and of course crêpes at the pub. All-day music on the Bookbinders stage was accompanied by great performances by Mick Clack and friends under the Community Centre gazebo, as well as the wonderful Jericho Singers who ended fittingly with 'Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho'. A very popular innovation this year was the children's art activity run by Chuey Manda-Liu of Art Studio Jericho with Steve Empson. This involved much creative clay work, and a temporary clay mural on the wall of St Barnabas Church. A plain colour -- Thomas Combe would have approved. Added to this, local artist Dympna Irwin spread out some huge carboard boxes originating from Walton Street Cycles, with a collection of crayons, that the children also jumped on with great glee. The raffle was drawn with official elan by Lord Mayor Colin Cook.
