Assault in Walton Street

Police appeal for help

Posted - February 21, 2013
Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses after a woman was assaulted in the early hours of Sunday 17 February. The victim, a 21-year-old woman, was walking along Walton Street at about 3.49am when she was approached by a man, who dragged her into a nearby alleyway. The victim screamed for help and managed to fight the offender off. He ran off along the alleyway, which leads into the Hart Street area of Jericho. The offender was white, about 28-years-old, of scrawny build, with blond/brown short hair and deep-set eyes. He was wearing a tracksuit with the hood up. Investigating officer Det Con Darren Pomroy, of Local CID in Oxford, said: “This was clearly a very frightening ordeal for the victim but she showed great bravery in fighting the man off and thankfully she was unharmed. “A man heard the victim’s screams and came to her assistance after the offender had run off. “I am appealing for anyone who saw the incident or recognises the description of the man to come forward as soon as possible.” If you can help, please call Det Con Pomroy via the 24-hour Police Enquiry Centre on 101. If you don't want to speak directly to the police you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at crimestoppers-uk.org. No personal details are taken, information is not traced or recorded and you will not go to court.
