Brisk business at Street Fair

In a break with tradition, the fair was held in July, and the large number of people who attended enjoyed the warmer, drier weather. There was plenty of entertainment. The children liked the Punch and Judy, the bouncy castle and the roundabout. And there were canal boat rides from College Cruisers. The music this year was outstanding, with three great bands: the Force 18 Big Band, the Stonesfield Silver Band, and John Hinkes and Friends. The draw had some excellent prizes, including meals for two at two of our local restaurants. Thanks to all the businesses who contributed prizes, including Le Petit Blanc, Rosamund the Fair, Sainsburys, Walton Street Post Office, Mahogany Hair Salon, Dillon's bookshop, and Nellie's Deli. We were also grateful to Comtel for providing barricades. We could perhaps have done with a few more stalls, but those who were there did good business. The Labour Party made an appearance though, in the spirit of thrusting New Labour perhaps, decided to shift from its allotted position. The Tories were understandably absent, perhaps licking their wounds, but where were the Liberal Democrats or the Greens? There was plenty of good food which was provided by volunteers, and ranged from hamburgers to Mexican fajitas. Next year's fair promises to be bigger and better.
