We all want to live in a green and pleasant land. I do a daily litter pick myself so feel I can comment on this issue. Here are ten ways towards a cleaner community:
1. Know your collection day.
Friday for all bins and bags. Blue one week, green the other. Food caddies every week. Garden rubbish (brown) every fortnight with green bins.
2. Know when to take your bins in
Collections usually finish by lunchtime. Please take them in. Wheeled bins obstruct the pavements making life difficult for pedestrians of all ages.
3. Know which sacks to put your rubbish in.
Black bags never. The council website (below) will tell you the right ones and they will supply them,
4. Putting out your rubbish early
This is an invitation to animals to try to ravage it and cause a huge mess. The night before is best.
5. Litter bins.
Please do not use them for domestic rubbish. You can be penalised for that.
6. Bigger items.
The Council will come and collect. You just have to contact them to ask.
7. Fly-tipping is illegal
If you see it, report it on the Council website (below). Anonymously if need be. If you are flytipping, then expect a fine
8. Litter picking is easy.
The Council will supply tongs and a bag. Go for it.
9. There are big bins
For clothes, paper, glass at the top of Cardigan Street, behind North Oxford Properties.
Best contact
To report fly-tipping or for any other concerns you should go to the
Street cleansing page of the City Council website
