NEWS ITEM

New community centre

Posted - December 06, 2005
The Planning Inspector’s report left open a number of questions about the Canalside development, notably the fate of the boatyard and the scale and design of the proposed new development. What it made quite clear, however, was that British Waterways would have to offer sufficient land to enable a new community centre to be built on the site. As a result British Waterways have been meeting with representatives of the Jericho Community Association – and unsurprisingly are trying to offer as little as they can. But as Chair George Taylor says: “We are spelling out for them how much land it would take to build a viable centre that meets the design brief presented at the Inquiry.”
