No 17 will run from the Railway station to Summertown shops

New service for the Jericho bus

Posted - December 06, 2016
The No 17 bus has been a lifeline for many people in Jericho, particularly for older residents to enable them to get to the city centre and Summertown. However, this has involved a subsidy, and since the County Council has had to remove the subsidy this service has been in jeopardy. In July, in an effort to cut running costs, Thames Travel reduced the service. However, this meant that it only went from Magdalen Street to St Margarets Road and there was a gap in the middle of the day. This made it less useful for residents. Following meetings with local residents and Councillor Pressel, Thames Travel, who have been making every effort to make the service financially sustainable, have come up with an new route and timetable. It is hoped that this will increase the number of passengers. If it does not, we are still in danger of losing the service. From Monday, January 9, the route will start at the railway station and and go Magdalen Street and St Margaret's Road and then via Woodstock Road, Squitchey Lane and Banbury Road to Summertown shops. From Summertown shops buses will operate via Moreton Road, Woodstock Road, and St Margaret's Road to Magdalen Street East and then to Oxford railway station. Railway station - Jericho - Summertown, Monday to Friday.
