Awards for special cemetery

Posted - November 10, 2015
St Sepulchres has been awarded a Green Flag Community Award from the Keep Britain Tidy Group for 2015/6, recognising that the cemetery is a welcoming and pleasant place to visit and has environmental sustainability, with conservation of heritage and nature, and community involvement. It is unusual for a cemetery to get a Green Flag and as it’s an annual award, we’ll have to keep working away. Their suggestions for improvement are all possible and we like the idea of more seating. There was also the honour of a certificate from the Lord Mayor in May, recognising the work done, and one in the Environmental Project section of the Oxford Preservation Trust Awards for 2015 in November for making it a more welcoming destination in Oxford. St Sepulchre's Cemetery has also been nominated for the Fields in Trust award for the UK's Best Park. You will find it listed under the "London & East of England" tab here: http://www.fieldsintrust.org/bestpark/nominations Voting closes at 5pm on Wednesday 25 November 2015. Perhaps you’d like to have a look at the website below and vote for St Sepulchre’s. The gardening group meets about twice a month for a couple of hours in the morning, mid-week; look on the website at the News section for the dates. New volunteers are always most welcome.
