We are going to miss the bus

The Jericho bus, Number 17, will be withdrawn after Friday 21st July 2017. This is very disappointing for those people who have relied on it to get into town, and also for Jericho's Alive and Kicking group which campaigned to keep it. Thames Travel has announced: "We have operated this service without any subsidy since July 2016 and throughout this time the service has made significant losses.There has been effort from both the company and local community groups in Jericho to grow patronage on the service but unfortunately this has not been successful." However, there are alternatives. For people unable to walk to Woodstock Road, to take a bus to the city centre, Oxfordshire County Council operates the 'Comet' bookable door-to-door minibus service. This can be booked in advance for considerably less than the cost of a taxi. The service runs from 10:00am - 2:30pm Monday to Friday. This is a community enterprise which used to be Dial-a-Ride and which operates in a similar way on behalf of Oxfordshire County Council.. It is a door-to-door service for those who are mobility impaired and unable to use, or do not have access to, conventional public transport in Oxford city.
