Wobbly Rejects

Origins of local group

Posted - December 16, 2001
The first time the Jericho Rejects entertainment group got together was to organize a street party for the Queen’s Silver Jubilee — the adrenaline ran, so we rehearsed a Christmas pantomime and took the name ‘Jericho Rejects’ (we thought we would be rejected by Jericho). Father Michael can take the blame for the group as it is today. He asked us to entertain at the opening of the St. Barnabas Centre and the Jericho Rejects singalongs began. For over ten years at Christmas we have visited halls, clubs, homes and associations. We are always been made very welcome, and in many cases come home feeling very merry. We never expect payment, but often get donations For the past 16 years the Rejects have also entered a float in the Lord Mayor’s parade. With the donations received, we have given a bench to the school playing field, hosted children’s Christmas parties, and in the past few years a Senior Citizens’ Christmas Party. How much longer will we blunder on? This is a question we ask ourselves. Well, the kicks may not be so high, and the wobbly bits more noticeable. But as long as we keep laughing we will keep going
