Mary Neal

July 2000

Mary passed away suddenly on May 15, aged 76. Born in Glasgow, she joined the NAAFI in 1942 aged 18. Mary met her husband, Gilbert, whilst stationed at Bicester and they were married in 1948 and moved to Jericho shortly afterwards. She later became an Auxiliary Nurse at the Radcliffe Infirmary and lived in Jericho for many years. Widowed in 1984, Mary worked tirelessly in the community and was always in the thick of any organising. As well as running the bingo and helping with the over-60s club, Mary was a dedicated Royal British Legionary. She touched the lives of a wide circle of people and her passing is acutely felt, particularly within Grantham House. The funeral was well attended at Wolvercote cemetery and a collection for the Royal British Legion raised £185. Mary's family would like to thank all her friends from Jericho for their kindness, support and help during this sad time
