New proposal for Walton Street

The latest offering is for the barrier to be replaced by left and right turning restrictions

Barrier could go, with just turning restrictions

Posted - March 04, 2021

The Walton Street traffic saga has another twist in the tale. The County Council will be starting a two-week consultation on Friday March 5. The new proposal is for the barrier to go, which will allow all northbound traffic to go straight on up Worcester Street through Walton Street.

However, there would be no southbound through traffic. This would be rebuffed at the end of Walton Street by a no-right-turn restriction. There would be a no-left turn from Little Clarendon Street into Walton Street.

There appear to be three choices now

  • This new scheme,
  • Reopen Walton Street and return to pre-2019 situation
  • Keep the current closure.

The final decision is in the hands of County Councillor Yvonne Constance, who will take it on April 29 at an online County Council meeting,

The consultation is now live here -
